Calculate the mole fraction of benzene in solution containing 30% by mass in carbon tetrachloride.

Calculate the mole fraction of benzene in solution containing 30% by mass in carbon

tetrachloride.

Solution - 30% by mass of C6H6 in CCl4 = 30 g C6H6 in 100 g solution

Therefore, Number of moles of C6H6 = 30/78 = 0.385 mol (Molar mass of C6H6 = 78)

and No. of moles of CCl4 = 70/154 = 0.455 (Molar mass of CCl4 = 154)

Therefore,

Mole Fraction of C6H6 = Moles of C6H6/Total Moles = 0.385/(0.385+0.455) = 0.458

Mole Fraction of CCl4 = 1 - 0.458 = 0542
